David M. Moinot
David M. Moinot’s work is an exploration of movement, rhythm, musicality, and monumentality. By layering architectural forms and experimenting with paper, he delves into themes of time, nature, and concealment. His sculptures evoke a sense of infinity, with light and shadow playing a transformative role. Drawn to the versatility of paper, he bends, twists, folds, and molds it, creating complexity from this simple and fragile medium.
Approaching his artworks as a composer would a symphony, he carefully orchestrates and layers each element to form cohesive, harmonious compositions. Every piece is based on a balance between order and chaos, form and space. The work unfolds as a unique visual melody where movement, lines, and forms flow seamlessly in rhythmic unity.
Forms such as arcs, aqueducts, cubes, tablet shapes, and obelisks carry an archaic power, evoking a resonance with ancient civilizations, as if their timeless essence echoes through the sculptures. The intricate layering of his work becomes a metaphor for the passage of time, revealing traces of a collective memory.
Repetition and rhythm are integral to the artist’s work, uncovering patterns that emerge naturally throughout the process. This repetition is calming, almost meditative, yet it also introduces a certain tension, a continuous interplay of control and intuition. Moinot strives to create artworks that feel musical, inviting viewers on a personal journey along evolving paths of motion, a blend of intentional design and intuitive exploration.
David M. Moinot (1981, Blackpool, UK) lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Started his education at the Design Academy Eindhoven and achieved a BFA in 2007 at the Minerva Academy in Groningen.
