Emmeke Eijsbouts

Emmeke Eijsbouts (1987) graduated from the Amsterdam University of the Arts and specialized in hand craft techniques. Armed with her tuft guns, Emmeke uses wool to soften the raw reality of life and make taboo subjects easier to talk about.

She chose to embrace the chaotic early years of parenthood as a powerful source of inspiration. For her series ‘something came in between’, she transformed uncomfortable and unfiltered scenes like leaking diapers, overturned bowls of soup or leaking breasts into soft, touchable wall hangings. Through these works, she reflects on parenthood and creates space for recognition and acknowledgement among other young parents.

The softening power of wool inspired her to look further into life’s less pleasant sides. By translating raw themes such as menstruation, medication and hormones into soft, tactile artworks, she gives them a new, warming dimension. Her mission is to use wool to offer a complementary twist on uncomfortable situations, softening them and opening them up for conversation.
